We won our last game of the regular season by one point. Our group played extremely compact and deserved their playoff time. “Celestine and Silver scored most of the points for Lila Lions. Soccer: our two boys U11 soccer teams lost their respective games (3-2 and 2-0). They will meet each other this Saturday at Columbus Middle school. Basketball: our girls 14-16 years old won one of their game this past  Wednesday at Expo center after a great performance. They lost their Saturday’s game against a strong opponent.” Girls played well, we only lost by nine points. Girls improved a lot and we play more competitive teams. It was just that one girl we could not stop..” said Coach Marilyn. We will play our next game on Wednesday at 7.00 pm (Expo center). We hope the girls can qualify for the playoff round. Our co ed team coached by Fabian had a way better result and only lost by ten points. It seems the group reacted and improved during these weeks of practice. :"We did a bit better, but we will keep up the good work. The objective is to try to win a game for this young group. There is room for improvement. “Congratulations to the team. They fought hard and we respected our game strategy. Efforts will pay off” said coach Fabian. The team will have to play 2 games on Saturday November 12th 2011. Go Lions!

foot-U-11-0406.JPGLila Lions played against the Flame Throwers this past Saturday.  We scored the first goal thanks to a great combination on the left side. Game was intense and both sides had opportunities to score.  The opponent came back to 1-1 thanks to a penalty kick. Our goalkeeper touched the ball but unfortunately could not stop it. Lions were still motivated and still tried to put the ball on the ground. Orlando helped us a lot and scored his second goal of the day. He gave us the 2-1 advantage and the hope to win the game. The flame throwers did not give up and pushed to score their second goal of the day. Our guys decided to move forward and we took our chance to win the game. On a counter attack, Flame Flowers scored the final goal of the game and won it 3-2. “I saw many good things today. Our players were focused, aggressive and tried to play soccer (ball on the ground). We can at least say we played a good game, even if we lost. The guys have no regrets and played at their full potential. The only regret I have is losing the game on mistakes we should have avoided” said Coach Simon. We will play Lila Lions B this coming Saturday November 12th 2011 at 9.00 am at Colombus Middle School. Come and support. Go Lions!

Our Boys U11 soccer teams will play this Saturday November 5th 2011 at Colombus Middle School (2 and 3 pm). Our teams will be motivated before meeting each other the following weekend.  It will be a nice classico game between coach Adrien and Simon. Our groups still practice twice a week until the December vacations. Boys U15 practice every Fridays and are preparing their spring soccer season. We work on some technical aspect and games situations. Boys are competitive and it is a pleasure to practice with them. Our West Valley campus has three youth teams registered with the YMCA soccer organization. We started playing two weeks ago and have not lost a game so far with coach Myriam and Anne. Boys and Girls Basketball (11-12 years old)currently  play a pretty competitive league at YMCA Reseda. Coach Fabien knows that the group is young and still have a lot to improve. His objective will be to win a game this year. Volleyball Girls (U15 and U18) keep on with their pre-season and will have to be ready by January for their first tournaments. After playing a friendly game, our Girls Basketball (14-16 years old) team started the expo center recreational league last week. We lost our first game by a eight points difference. The group was pleased by the way they played and by the great facilities of the expo center. They will play tonight at 6.00 PM at expo center with Coach Marilyn. They will play the best team of the group.  We will surely try to register our first win. Go Lions!

SURF.jpegFor the second time, Lila organized its surf camp at Manhattan Beach. Twenty eight students registered for a complete and pure surfing adventure with professional local instructors. The first day, students were exited but kind of nervous looking at the big waves. After some explanations, they felt very safe about jumping into the water with their surf board. The 5 days of surfing were intense. The conditions were excellent: small waves and a big sun for the whole week. We had the chance to surf right next to dauphins almost every day. We played beach games (soccer, volleyball, flag football) during the morning, and took surfing lessons during the afternoon (2 hours per day). All the students could stand up on the board by the end of the week. Some of them were able to really surf! They will remember these moments for a long time. They came back home exhausted but happy ! This camp was a unique experience. Lila had a blast and learned so much about the ocean. We already think about organizing a similar experience during the next April vacation.

Go lions!
